The GR III HDF feature the HDF filter (Highlight Diffusion Filter), which emphasises high highlights and produces soft, smooth images. ND filter is not installed and is replaced by HDF.

As the HDF can be switched on and off with a single press of a button, the user can effortlessly switch between two completely different visual expressions depending on the subject or creative intent - clear, sharply focused images, emblematic of the RICOH GR series, and softer, smoother images captured by the HDF.
